Chapter 1 - the birth of Confederation (year 2392)
Captain’s log stardate 57727.43: It’s been sometime since the USS Voyager returned from its long trip in Delta quadrant and since I’ve been given command on the Sovereign class starship or should I say USS Enterprise-E - the seventh ship that bares the same famous name. Unfortunately Data sacrified himself, and died to save the Enterprise and planet Earth from Reman’s Praetor Shinzon super weapon called thalaron radiation. Luckily before Data’s death we have found a remnants of an android wich is very similar to Data, and manage to copy the seeds of Data’s neural net into his positronic brain. There was also a great replacement of high officers aboard the Enterprise We got a new Andorian doctor Mr. Anoris, Mrs. Lenna Bellroy also from Betazoid as new counselor, and a new Klingon First Officer Mr. Kro’Beh. So far they are all quite decent and excellent officers. However the alliance between Federation and Klingon Empire has never been better and we are now currently en route to intercept a large Federation – Klingon convoy that is on its way to planet Earth. The convoy’s lead ship is USS Dakota witch is under command of Captain Victoria Iceberg. She is a daughter of our Fleet admiral Duke Iceberg and also one of the best officers in Starfleet. Unless I received an order from Adm. Iceberg to escort that convoy to Earth, I also received a message from Admiral Kathryn Janeway to meet with her so she can inform me about her new discovery. I just hope that nothing gone wrong.
- Captain Picard!
- What is it?
- The U.S.S. Voyager is closing on us.
- Put it on screen.
- They are hailing us.
- Open a channel.
- Captain Picard, its Admiral Kathryn Janeway.
- Adm. Janeway, I’m glad to see you! Why do you need me?
- Jean-Luc I have come to tell you that the IKS Math'Ej had spotted Romulan and Cardassian starships in sector K-371.
- What?! Are they something up to?
- I don’t know.
- Are they threatening to each other?
- No. They were heading for starbase Terok Nor 3.
- Together?!
- Yes!
- Why?
- I’m not so sure, but they were probably escorting cargo ships.
- Cargo ships? What kind of cargo they were transporting?
- Some warp cores, weapons, cloaking devices, shield generators…
- That is not good. Is all of that true?
- Of course it is. Scanners don’t lie.
- Well, that is correct, but you forget to say that scanners don’t lie in most cases, because nothing is perfect.
- You are right about that Jean-Luc.
- So you said that they were transporting weapons? What if they’re planning to attack us?!
- I don't think they are intending to do that, because the IKS Math'ey wasn't cloaked and have managed to initiate full scan of both cargo ships and battleships, unattacked.
- Is that correct?! I don’t like the idea of starting another war.
- Yes it is. Not only that they didn’t attack IKS Math’ey, but they weren’t even raised shields.
- Oh, that’s very strange. Perhaps something happened to them.
- Perhaps it is, but we don’t know that.
- Maybe there is some way to establish contact with them and find out what is going on and to try to negotiate with them. It would be much better for all of us to live in peace and perhaps try to make alliance.
- I don’t know about that, but we will see. I will keep you informed if something occurs, and I expect that you will do the same.
- I will. Now, if you’ll excuse me. Admiral Iceberg ordered me that I must intercept a big Federation-Klingon convoy on its way to Earth.
- Alright then, Jean-Luc, good luck!
- Goodbye, Kathryn! Mr. Data set a course for interception of convoy.
- Aye, sir!
- Warp 6, engage!
- Warp drive engaged!
- …Captain Picard!
- Yes, what?
- We are closing on a convoy.
- Disengage warp engines. Proceed with one quarter impulse speed.
- Aye, Captain!
- Sir, the convoy's lead ship, USS Dakota is hailing us.
- Put it on screen.
- Hello Jean-Luc, its Captain Victoria Iceberg from Federation starship USS Dakota. I’ve been ordered to escort this convoy to Earth. What do you want, Captain?
- Captain Iceberg, it’s the Enterprise, Starfleet has sent me to escort this convoy to Earth.
- Thank you very much for your arrival. We were a little outnumbered until now.
- Yes, I've seen that, but there are more of us now. We will stand better chances together. Good luck, Picard out!
- Captain Picard, 3 vessels are decloaking in front of us.
- On screen.
- Which are those ships?
- General's Martok Negh’Var, Norexan and a Keldon.
- General Martok is hailing us.
- Open the channel.
- Hah, Jean-Luc my friend, I'm glad to see you.
- General Martok, you are a little late, but I’m still glad you came to assist us in the escort.
- If I’m late then I apologize to you Captain.
- Thank you Martok, I accept your apology, but right now that is not on my mind.
- What’s troubling you, then?
- I’m wondering why you have come with this Norexan and Keldon?
- That’s what I’m going to tell you, and that is also a reason why I was late.
- Yes, that is alright, but you don’t have to apologize anymore, because you’ve already done that. I would rather like now to explain me your friendship with Romulans and Cardassians.
- Alright Jean-Luc. I was on my way to intercept your convoy, when I ran into the nebula in which I could use neither my warp drive nor cloaking device and shields, what meant that I was a perfect target for enemy ships. When I exited nebula and tried to activate my cloaking device and go immediately to warp, this Norexan and Keldon decloaked right in front of me. When I was going to power up my shields and weapons, I’ve received a hail from Cardassian ship. I was beginning to wonder why they weren’t attacked me. Instead commander of Cardassian ship told me this: “Qa’pla General Martok, I’m Legat Kentar and I’m in command of Cardassian’s Union flagship. With me is Admiral Array with her Norexan – flagship of the Romulan Star Empire. You don’t have to raise your shields and weapons, because we are not going to attack you. We come in peace. I said then: How I can trust you?! – And then he said to me: General Martok, I know that our people haven’t been in good relationship, but I will prove you now that we are not your enemies”.
- And how he managed to prove that?
- He said to his tactical officer and to Norexan to lower the shields and weapons.
- What happened then?
- I couldn’t belive that, but I saw it with my own eyes and sensors. I asked then Legat Kentar what he really needs me. He told me next: “I’m going to provide you with very important and disturbing information as well. 3 of our scout ships were on routine patrol on the edge of Cardassian-Romulan border. Suddenly 7 ships have appeared on their sensors. They’ve been identified as 3 Borg vessels, and 4 ships known as species 8472”. I asked then: Have they managed to identify what type of ships were those? – And he said: “Borg ships were cubes, but not the standard ones. Those were about five times larger than standard cubes. Species 8472 ships they couldn’t recognized, because we are little weak in that area of registry”.
- What happened with scout ships?
- 2 of them were instantly destroyed and the last one has luckily managed to send a message to both Romulan Senat and Cardassian Detapa Council before it was also destroyed. And then I said to Kentar that I’m thankful for information, but that I’m late to meet with you. He immediately asked me can they join me so they can inform you about their discovery too. I said then that they can join us if they wish.
- And you did a good thing Martok. We need all avalible help we can get; especially now when we know that the Borg returned, and what is the most troubling that they have returned with species 8472 which are extremely powerful race. Thank you Martok, now I think that it is time to begin our escort. Picard out!
- Captain we are being hailed!
- Again?
- Yes, but this time from Cardassians and Romulans.
- On screen!
- Hello Captain Picard. I’ve heard that General Martok already told you about our discovery.
- Yes that is correct. I’m glad that you have decided to share that with us and warn us on time.
- Thank you Captain, but I would more like that we stop being each other throats, and instead of that I think about us as of friends and allies. If we hold together we will be much stronger and will have ability to drive off Borg and species 8472 back where they belong. So, what is your opinion about that?
- Allies?! That would be great.
- Of course it would. Where should we start then?
- You can join us in escort of these freighters to Earth where we will be able to negotiate about the alliance, and I must contact Adm. Janeway and tell her to come to Earth as soon as possible.
- I agree with you, Captain! We want to enter alliance with both the Federation and Klingon Empire as soon as possible.
- Yes, I also want that? It was nice to speak with you, but we are a little late now. We will speak more when we get to Earth. Now just get in formation and inform us if something appears on sensors.
- We will Captain Picard. Kentar and Array out!
- Mr. Data, set a course to sector 001 – Earth.
- Aye Captain!
- Take us out of here. Warp 8 – Engage!
- Warp drive engaged!
- Mr. Worf - send message to Admiral Janeway and to Starfleet about our new allies, if I can call them that way and about their discovery of the Borg and species 8472 attack.
- Yes, sir…I’ve sent the message sir.
- Excellent! We can now relax until we reach Earth, but if any sign of Borg or species 8472 appears on our sensors, I want you to notify me.
- Hmm…strange?!
- What’s wrong Number One?
- It’s strange that Cardassians and Romulans that were our enemies now want to make alliance with us and Klingons.
- You’re right Kor’Beh, but it looks like they’ve changed.
- Maybe, but that is too suspicious to me.
- No, I don’t agree with you.
- Why? Maybe they are planning to get in alliance with us and then to destroy us from inside when they get a good opportunity.
- I don’t think so, because why they would give us such information if they want to destroy us. That would be also terrible mistake for them, because Borg and species 8472 will be able then to conquer the alpha quadrant much easier while we would argue among ourselves. Also, if they’ve wanted to do that, they could have destroyed IKS Math’Ej when he spotted and scanned their ships heading for Terok Nor 3, or Martok’s ship when it was defenseless in that nebula in the first place, but they did not.
- Alright, Captain if you say so. I only hope that nothing will go wrong.
- It won’t Number One, thrust me! I’ll be in my quarters. Bridge is yours!
- Alright Captain!
- To Captain’s quarters! Computer: One tea, Earl Gray – hot!
- …Captain Picard!
- Oh, what is it, I’m sleeping?
- We are closing to Earth!
- Alright! I’ll be on the bridge in 3 minutes.
- …Captain on the bridge!
- Mr. Data, hail USS Dakota!
- Aye sir! Channel open!
- Dakota, it’s the Enterprise. I have sent the docking codes and we can now dock with starbase.
- Excellent Cpt. Picard. Initiating docking sequence…stand by…docking is complete.
- Jean-Luc, I'm glad to see you again. How are you?
- I’m fine Captain Lightninger. Thank you for asking me that. What brings you here?
- I have come here to resupply my ship.
- That’s fine. Did you heard that we are about to create alliance with Romulans and Cardassians?
- Cardassians and Romulans! Is that sure?
- Yes it is, but there are more things that I wish to tell you.
- What things?
- I don’t have much time right now to tell you that, but you will hear everything if you join us in conference room for about 30 minutes.
- Alright. I’ll be there. Thank you, Captain Picard!
- Thank you, Sirius!
- Sirius!
- Victoria, what brings you to Starbase 1?
- I was escorting freighters here.
- Ok, then. Do you know of our new allies?
- Yes, Cpt. Picard told me.
- Do you have some time to go to the messhall to drink something with me?
- Yes, of course. Why not!
- What will you drink?
- Jagermaister.
- Ok, I will drink Kanar 29. So, I've heard that you received your new galaxy class USS Dakota.
- Yes, that's right.
- Here, have a seat.
- What would you like to drink?
- A glass of Jagermaister for her, and I want a glass of Kanar 29.
- Alright, it comes right away.
- What’s about your ship?
- She is fine. I’m resupplying her at starbase.
- Oh, that’s nice. Where are you going next?
- I will probably go to planet Qo’Nos to pick up some cargo and take it back to Earth unless something goes wrong. What about you, Victoria?
- I will go to sector Z-246 on explore mission.
- Z-246?! I never heard of it.
- Yes, most of Federation officers still don’t know about that sector, because it has been unexplored.
- Unexplored?! I thought that there are no more unexplored sectors in Alpha quadrant.
- Well, it looks like you thought wrong, right?
- Yeah, I guess.
- Adm. Janeway to Cpt. Lightninger: Can you please come to conference room on a meeting.
- Yes, I’m on my way Admiral.
- We must go on a meeting, now, and next time I’m taking you on a dinner. But not an ordinary dinner! I will take you on one very special dinner in fact.
- Ok, that’s very nice from you. Let's go now, so we don’t keep them waiting for too long.
- Yes, let’s go. So tell me Victoria what you think that we will accomplish to create that alliance between us, Klingons, Cardassians and Romulans.
- I think we will.
- Why?
- Well, most probably because of the incident with Borg and species 8472.
- What? Borg, species 8472, incident – what are you talking about?!
- Don’t you tell me that you didn’t hear about that?
- No, I did not. Not a single word!
- Then, you will hear it on this meeting most probably.
- Oh, you have arrived, please have a seat.
- Adm. Janeway, where are the others.
- They will be here in a minute.
- Alright then, we’ll have to wait.
- Yes. Would you like to drink something?
- Pina colada for her and a glass of Kanar 29 for me, please.
- Alright.
- Oh, you have arrived, too. Please have a seat. We are now only waiting Admiral Iceberg to come. Would you like to drink something?
- No, thank you.
- Alright then, we will sit and wait for Admiral Iceberg.
- Oh, here he is.
- I’m sorry if I’m a little late. I’ve had to do something, but that doesn’t matters now. So I think that we can start with our meeting. Do you agree?
- Yes, I think we can Admiral Iceberg.
- Alright. Legat Kentar, Admiral Array can you tell us first what happened not too long ago?
- Yes, I will tell you the story, and belive us that all of that is true.
- We do belive you, just go ahead and tell us about your encounter.
- It was stardate 57715.39. 3 of our scout ships were on routine patrol on the far edge of Romulan – Cardassian border. 2 of them were Romulan Shrike class ships, and the last one was Cardassian Rasilak class. After about 2 hours of their patrol duty, 7 vessels appeared on their sensors. 3 of ships were identified as Borg cubes, but only five times bigger from the standard ones and other 4 ships were species 8472 ships of unknow class to us.
- Do you have some data about those ships from the scout ships scanners?
- Yes, luckily we have their ships profiles and configurations thanks to the Romulan scout that sended us the transsmission about the attack. I will transfer the data to your computer.
- Transfer is succesful. Thank you.
- Alright, on this screen you can see configurations of their ships. We will now compare them with the ones in our database. Wait a few moments…here, I’ve found it. Borg ships are identified as Tactical fusion cubes or populary called TFC-s. They are as Legat Kentar and Admiral Array said five times larger than standard cubes, and also much powerful. They are ones of the strongest ships in the galaxy ever encountered, with very high level of defensive and offensive capabilities.
- What about species 8472 ships?
- Species 8472 are even more fearsome enemies than the Borg. Their ships are organic with very high level of surviving and adapting abilities, and are using highly advanced bio weapons of unknown kind that are extremely powerful.
- Then we are doomed. Combined Borg and species 8472 technologies will destroy us all.
- Yes, and that is exactly the reasons why all of us have to be allies and use our combined forces against that kind of threat. If we all do not agree and again start arguing among ourselves, then there is no any other chance of surving for us.
- In other words: We will be exterminated.
- Yes.
- Alright, but if we make alliance between all of us right now and right here, then we are standing better chances for survival and defence of our people, starbases, planets and our galaxy.
- I agree with you in every word you said. So I’m asking you now who wants that we create alliance between us and who is against that? General Martok you may say your opinion first.
- Yes, thank you Admiral Iceberg. I’m much honored that I’m here with you my friends and I can assure you that from this time forward we will always be together and that we will defend ourselves and each other from threat of any kind. Right now I don’t care how strong our enemies are and I know that I will fight with each one of them, and that I’m thurst of their blood and destruction. I have nothing against creating alliance with you, but instead of that I will share my technologies, resources, battles and everything with you, so our alliance can be better. Glory to you!
- Thank you General Martok! I’m giving word to Legat Kentar now.
- I have to agree with our Klingon friend General Martok. Every single word he said stands for me, and I think that it stands for the others as well. So yes, you are for me from this time forward my friends and allies!
- Thank you Legat Kentar! Admiral Array may speak now.
- Thank you Admiral Iceberg! I agree with both of them, and with everything they said. Our enemy is too powerful for us and that’s the main reason why we must be to each other allies and not throats. In other words I will be very pleased to create alliance with all of you. I think I’ve said enough.
- Yes you did Admiral Array and thank you for that! I’ve seen that most of us agrees with alliance, so I will just check is everything alright and ask you one more times does anybody have to say something against this alliance. Please, put your hand up in the air those who are against our alliance…alright as I can see all of you agrees with the alliance so I will make no difference. I’m also for alliance.
- Thank you Admiral Iceberg, but can you please tell us term and demands for the alliance?
- Yes, of course Martok. Although I think that you already know them I will tell you. We will share technology, resources and anything else among ourselves; we will also protect each other, and consult beetwen us about everything. There must be no threachery and secrets in alliance. In other words we share everything and we do everything together. I think that there are no problems about that.
- No, everything is alright. I just want to know one more thing.
- Yes, go ahead Legat.
- What kind of alliance it will be? How we will call it?
- I know what you mean. I think that is the best for the alliance to be Confederation, if everyone agrees of course.
- Yes, we agree with you Admiral Iceberg.
- Alright, the alliance is Confederation. If we notice something on our sensors I will inform you. I suppose you will do the same.
- Yes, we will!
- Thank you ladies and gentleman! We can now celebrate this, but with our eyes open if enemy attacks us. This meeting is adjourned!
